About

I am a Choir Leader and self-proclaimed singing addict based in Bristol. For details of my current choirs and singing projects visit the Choirs and Singing Groups page.

I believe that singing is for everyone. We can all enjoy the benefits it has to offer, regardless of our musical ability or background. Singing works on so many levels – improving our well being, breathing, connection with others and it’s a huge source of enjoyment. All of my choirs and workshops are open access so anyone can come along.

My teaching style

I teach songs from a variety of genres opening up singers to the diversity of music that exists. I find it fascinating that each song has its own story to tell. I make everyone feel as welcome and supported as possible, ensuring each session is fun and engaging.

I love the way that singing together creates community and that being in a choir can be a truely growing experience.  We learn to better listen to one another, work together, find balance between song parts and develop qualities such as perseverance and patience.

My teaching is about the process and enjoyment of singing together in the moment. In the past, singing was much more a part of everyday life (we sang during celebrations, mourning, rituals, working etc), but we have become increasingly removed from this, with singing being left to the performers or professionals.  I am passionate about bringing it back into the public domain for everyone to enjoy.

The Natural Voice Network

I am member of the Natural Voice Network (NVN) who believe that singing is our birthright. Our ethos is one of inclusivity, encouragement and building the confidence of those who believe they can’t sing.  We teach in a style that engages singers of all abilities.

My story

I have been hugely inspired by the years that I spent travelling, living and working in Asia, Australia, America and Europe.  Experiencing a variety of cultures and being part of a variety of projects, has given me a unique insight into the diversity of lives people lead around the world.  I love to bring that to the songs I teach and open my groups up to a wide array of harmony music.

For me group harmony singing is one of the best ways to find balance in an increasingly unbalance world where everything moves fast and life can easily becoming overwhelming. I deeply understand value of creating community, being in the moment and enjoying the simple pleasures such as singing that are available to everyone.

I have experienced first hand the power of music to create connection, make people feel great and provide a relief from stress, technology and life! My wish now is to get as many people benefiting from singing as possible.
